What causes mental illness?

Mental illness has no single cause. Recent evidence indicates that many of the major mental illnesses involve chemical imbalances in the body. Mental illness are:

• Biological - linked with disturbances in the brain or other body-system chemistry.
• Psychological - linked with disturbances in thoughts or emotions.
• Social - linked with life events or stresses.

Are people with mental illness dangerous?

Research has not been able to demonstrate the mental illness causes people to be more violent.

How many people are affected by mental illness?

1% of the population is likely to have a serious mental illness at any given time. 1 in 5 individuals are likely to be diagnosed with a mental illness at some time during their lifetime.

Where does TLS operate?

TLS operates outpatient clinics and a state certified CSP Program in both Milwaukee and Racine Counties. TLS also has a Community Based Residential Program in Milwaukee County. TLS operates supported housing apartments for individuals diagnosed with a major mental illness in Milwaukee, Racine, and Waukesha Counties.

How can someone access services at TLS?

TLS provides outpatient mental health services for individuals 18 and over who have a major mental illness (i.e. Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar Disorder, Major depression, Anxiety Disorders, and Schizo-affective Disorder) in Milwaukee and Racine Counties. Does TLS accept T-19 payments?

TLS accepts both Title 19 and private insurance for services.

Does TLS work with children and or families?

TLS only works with individuals who are 18 and over. TLS does work indirectly with clients’ children and family members through the clients treatment program when the occasion arises.

Does TLS have a full medical staff?

TLS has four Psychiatrists that work with our 2 clinics. TLS also has three nurses on staff and social workers as case managers. TLS also provides a pharmacy for our consumers.
