Housing

Transitional Living Services is committed to ensuring that adults with severe and persistent mental illness achieve their full potential for self-sufficiency. Providing our consumers with a variety of affordable, comfortable and safe housing options is part of that commitment.

Mentally ill adults must overcome a variety of obstacles as they seek to find and retain safe and affordable housing. They typically have little income and limited money management skills. Often they have histories of hospitalizations, incarcerations or institutionalization, and few skills that would allow them to live successfully on their own. Many exhibit unusual behaviors that stem from their mental illness or the effects of medication, and many experience crisis episodes. These factors make landlords reluctant to accept mentally ill adults as tenants. In addition, mentally ill adults often are estranged from family and friends and have limited support systems.

A mentally ill adult seeking safe and affordable housing finds a strong and experienced advocate at Transitional Living Services. TLS will assess the consumer's personal finances, independent living skills and individual needs and desires. TLS then develops a supported housing plan with measurable goals and objectives.

TLS residential services are provided on a month-to-month basis. Shorter stays are possible, based on consumer need and availability. Consumers eligible for TLS housing must be at least 18 years old, have a diagnosed mental illness, be enrolled in a community case management program, and have the resources to pay for housing. Housing is available to consumers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
