A Palette Waiting To Be Transformed

Meet Camille T. Draheim, a TLS consumer and artist.  Painting is soothing, therapeutic and part of her ongoing recovery program. Her involvement in TLS art classes and the creative process has helped Cammy manage her illness more effectively and she has not returned to the hospital in over 6 years.

"Art has made me realize I can do anything," says Cammy. Recently her lily design was selected as a 2008 Easter Seals winner, competing with more than 3,500 entries from amateur and professional artists.

Cammy's success story and poem was featured at the 17th Annual Blue Jean Bingo Program. In addition to speaking to the crowd that evening, she donated this painting, Emma the Giraffe and a commissioned watercolor to the silent auction. Her two items generated over $2,500 for TLS programs and services in Milwaukee and Racine.

Gloria E. exemplifies our many success stories. Gloria, who is diagnosed with Schizophrenia, was living in a rundown apartment building in a rough neighborhood. Through the efforts of TLS, she was able to secure a better apartment in a safer neighborhood. As her feelings of personal safety improved, her self-esteem increased and she was, for the first time in her illness, able to take public transportation. Partly because of her enhanced feelings of personal safety, she became more committed to taking her medications, thereby improving her quality of life. Her confidence continues to grow, and she is participating in a work-training program.
